Battle of Britain

So, those of you who are aware of my movements away from the infernal steam powered laptop this dreadful joke of an employer forces me to use will be aware that I've been back on the cold damp lump of rock off the coast of France for some time now. Trying to sort out various affairs but mostly being thwarted by the most basic of things at every turn. So far I've discovered that every single electrical appliance I own is in fact American now.. so I have no ability to recharge my mobile phone whilst using my laptop at the same time.. and some confusing ballet of plug changing ensues everytime I need to use one of my many gadgets.

Getting here was a pain as well.. flew directly into Heathrow to discover that the UK's travel agency had failled to book my hire car for me, causing much confusion at Europcar Heathrow.. after sorting that particular debacle out I started driving directly up to Manchester for a customer meeting somewhere near Wilmslow. Various heavy eye moments and numerous stops for Red Bull sorted that out.. but surprise surprise the UK travel team hadn't booked my hotel for me either. They still found me a room but on the flipside I'd rather have been sent somewhere else. They'd booked me into the 'Best' Western in Wilmslow.

A hotel constructed following the Basil Fawlty school of hostelry. Firstly no internet, secondly no air conditioning and the UK is in a heat wave. leaving me feeling like an urchin on the streets of calcutta sitting in my pants trying to get my laptop to use the hotels primitive telephone network to connect to anything.. I failled on that count and resorted to a vodafone wireless card that I'd forgotten I'd packed.

After that things improved apart from my Dad going missing and me not being able to get into anywhere to stay.. thankfully friends in sunny Olney put me up despite my complaining and dreadful personality they've not actually murdered me in my sleep just yet!

Got my car back on Monday after it's been in somebody's 'careful' hands in my absence. Not sure about the careful part... rear tyres down to 3mm from new in December, scorched and fried front discs and the damn thing was experiencing some kind of misfire.

Porsche, Kwik-Fit and my wallet later and I'm over 1k lighter.. but at least I have my car..

now I'm getting ready to pack for a vacation so you can all give up on expecting another post for another few weeks...

GET LIVES.
